Proverbs 31 Wife - Verse 13

Proverbs 31:13 – She seeks out wool and flax and works with willing hands to develop it.

The original Hebrew word for willing is chephets, meaning; pleasure, desire, delight, purpose, matter, and willingly.

Works with willing hands.  Works with pleasure.  Works with desire.  Works with delight.  Works with purpose.  Works with matter.  It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, whether it’s a big task or a small one.  We are called to do it with willing hands.  Cleaning house, doing laundry, doing the dishes…all things that no one particularly enjoys doing.  But they are things that have to be done.  And they are things that we should do with willing hands.  Our homes are something that we should take pride in.  We should view our home as a gift God has given us.  Therefore, taking care of it is something that should be done with purpose.  The only reason we struggle with housework, is because we are living in the flesh.  Our flesh has convinced us that it isn’t something that is important.  This next part is especially hard for me, because I do work outside of the home.  I feel like I am an equal contributor financially as my husband.  And I have always felt like housework should be divided equally.  However, I am one of the lucky ones who has a husband who agrees with that.  Even though I work outside of the home, it is still one of my duties to keep the house in order.  My husband takes care of the finances.  It’s something that I don’t feel comfortable doing, so I need to take up the slack in other areas.  And I need to do this with a willing heart.

The world tells us that if we work outside the home, then we don’t have to have responsibilities inside the home as well.  We have to remember that is the world speaking to us and in us.  Even though we work outside of the home, what is more important than our obedience to the Lord?  Nothing.  Of course it isn’t easy to accept this, because we think it is unfair.  Bring your concerns to the Lord.  He is the only one that can help you to understand and accept this.  Either by softening your husband’s heart, so that he helps you more.  Or by using this to build your character, and to teach you that you CAN do this as well as work outside of the home.

Pray specifically for God to help you to do your work as He would have it.  To show you what your role as a wife is, and help you to be the wife with willing hands.

Tomorrow’s verse: Proverbs 31:14 – She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
